Hiking around Tisens: from St. Hippolyt to the Laugenspitze

Easy family trails, castles and summits with views of the Dolomites: the best hikes that start right on our doorstep in Tisens.

In short

Around Tisens, trails of every level start right in the village. The walk to St. Hippolyt, the Felt Art Trail and the Castle Circular Trail in Prissian are easy and family-friendly; for more altitude, climb the Laugenspitze or hike up to the Gfrillner Laugenalm.

TL;DR

  • St. Hippolyt is about a 50-minute walk from the hotel, with views as far as the Dolomites.
  • For families: the Felt Art Trail (about 3 km) and the Vorbichl Adventure Trail (2 km, pushchair-friendly).
  • For mountain lovers: the Laugenspitze, 923 metres of ascent, with a stop at the Laugenalm.

In Tisens, countless hiking trails and walks begin practically on your doorstep. On foot, with Nordic walking poles or with children: across meadows in bloom, along irrigation channel paths and through shady woods, you reach viewpoints, castles and churches. Here are our favourite routes, from leisurely to demanding.

Leisurely: St. Hippolyt and the Castle Circular Trail

One of the most beautiful spots near us is the hill of St. Hippolyt. From the hotel it is a hike of about 50 minutes; at the top, St. Hippolyt Church and a view as far as the Dolomites await you.

The Castle Circular Trail in Prissian is an easy hike past the 13th-century Wehrburg, the Casatsch castle ruin (Pfeffersburg) and Castel Katzenzungen, home of the Versoaln vine – the largest and probably oldest vine in the world.

With children: the Felt Art Trail and the Vorbichl Adventure Trail

  • Felt Art Trail: it starts right here in Tisens and is about 3 km long. Along the way stand 24 works of art made from the wool of local sheep.
  • Vorbichl Adventure Trail: the 2 km loop in Prissian is suitable for pushchairs too; its stations are made for climbing and balancing.

For summit seekers: the Laugenspitze and the Gfrillner Laugenalm

With 923 metres of ascent, the climb to the Laugenspitze is a challenge. You are rewarded with regional food at the Laugenalm and, at the summit, a panorama reaching the Dolomites.

Shorter is the hike from the Perlkraling car park to the Gfrillner Laugenalm: after about 1 hour and 45 minutes you can rest, and if you like, continue to the Laugensee lake in another hour. Take enough water on both routes.
